Several witnesses will raise their hands and give sworn testimony that a simple disclosure on the back of a package that food made with genetically modified ingredients will raise food prices.

All of them will be wrong.

According to a December Associated Press-GfK poll, 66% of Americans favour requiring food manufacturers to put labels on products that contain genetically modified organisms, or foods grown from seeds engineered in labs. Only 7% are opposed to the idea, and 24% are neutral.

GMO Approval Process FINALLY Being Scrutinized

In 2013, Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) wrote to the Government Accountability Office (GAO) [1] and asked them to look into the review system being used to regulate genetically modified crops—specifically, “to ensure that [it] fully reflects current science.” This week, the GAO agreed to begin a review [2] of how the USDA and FDA look at the long-term safety of genetically engineered crops both in the environment and in the food supply.
